TOUR PROGRAM ITINERARY

The tour will bring you to Juodkrantė, which is one of the oldest settlements on the Curonian Spit and stretches along the lagoon for a couple of kilometres. Initially, the settlement was located a bit closer to the sea, but the massive deforestation and the resulting movement of the dunes made the inhabitants to settle closer to the lagoon. The guide will explain the origins of the name of the settlement. Juodkrantė will fascinate, surprise and leave an indelible impression. This seaside area offers many spectacular spots to admire the nature and tourist attractions: the Amber Bay, eye-catching sculptures in the Stone Sculpture Park located on the embankment of the lagoon and one of the most popular attractions in Juodkrantė - the mysterious Hill of Witches, where you will definitely take time to explore the characters of folk sculptures.

During the tour, you will find out that the initial work to implement the idea of the Hill of Witches started back in 1979, and today the hill is ‘inhabited’ by about eight dozen wooden sculptures carved by one hundred folk artists and admired by curious visitors. Not only will you have a chance to see the magnificent folk art pieces presented there, but you will also learn about the history of the Hill of Witches, the celebrations that used to take place there, as well as the fact that the hill was selected as the favourite spot for festivities not only by people but also by witches and devils. You will have time to decide whether to believe it or not when making your way up the hill and getting to know its inhabitants. Surrounded by legends and folk tales that inspired a local forest ranger to bring them to life them through wooden sculptures, the hill and the unique aura present there will allow you to enter the mysterious and magical world of witches, devils and other characters of folk tales and legends by inviting you to fight with giants, sit on a devil’s throne, say hello to Lucifer or dragons, or even to play cards with a group of ... devils? The Hill of Witches will give you unforgettable emotions and experiences, as well as an opportunity to see what you won’t see anywhere else.

The end point of the trip is Klaipėda and its beautiful old town that features characterful architectural solutions and impressive sculptures, and has a long and complex history, which you will hear from your guide. You will explore the attractions of the Klaipėda Old Town, take a look at the eye-catching sculptures, and visit the Theatre Square, boasting the name of the ‘heart of the city’. For those interested in the places to eat, the guide will show the eateries to have delicious meals in the old town of Klaipėda, where you will have an opportunity to explore the masterpieces of Lithuanian cuisine.
