TOUR PROGRAM ITINERARY
This tour combines the sights of Klaipėda Old Town and a trip to Palanga - one of the most popular Lithuanian resorts, where you will visit its wonderful Botanical Park and discover the wonders of the Amber Museum.
Do you know that over 80 percent of the amber found in the world comes from the Baltic and nowhere else? So we have no doubt that you will be fascinated by and interested not only in the museum’s exhibits but also in the engrossing information about the types of amber, its formation, fields of application, trade routes, and the peculiarities of amber extraction and processing. The museum, located in the magnificent Botanical Park, opened its doors back in 1963, and still holds the title of one of the most visited museums in the country. Deservedly so, as the visitors are welcomed to explore a rich and fascinating collection of approximately thirty thousand exhibits. The unique and world-famous collection of inclusions enjoys an exceptional admiration. The impressive Botanical Park (known by many under its former name of ‘Birutė Park’) that surrounds the museum is also worth visiting. The park features not only a magnificent nature but also beautiful sculptures, monuments and other attractions.
To take a walk along the famous Basanavičiaus Street, which stretches all the way to the bridge to the sea, is a must when in Palanga. The biggest street of the resort comes alive in the summer, filled with a pleasant hustle and bustle, life, and a mild chaos. Should you wish to have a meal in Palanga, look for a place in Basanavičiaus Street, as it offers a wide range of options: numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars, serving satisfying and delicious food. You will also find a number of dining places there to enjoy the masterpieces of the Lithuanian traditional cuisine.
The tour also includes a visit to the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary in Palanga, a red brick structure dating for over a century back. The aesthetics of Neo-Gothic, grace and grandeur make the church a real attraction for curious people. Not only the exterior of the church is fascinating, the inside of the church, where the marble bas-reliefs adorn the altar, is also worth exploring, and there is even more - the church tower has a viewing platform that overlooks the resort and provides a breathtaking view.
After visiting the Amber Museum and the impressive Palanga church, you will have some free time in Palanga to take a walk in the cosy streets of the resort, enjoy a cup of delicious coffee or admire the Baltic Sea. Who knows, maybe the sea will gift you with a piece of amber? After that, you will come back to Klaipėda.
